Buses to and from Menorca Airport (MAH)

Menorca Airport is one of the main airports serving the Balearic Islands of Spain, and is found just 4.5 km, or 2.8 miles to the southwest of Mahón, the capital city of Menorca Island. The airport lies towards the south of the island, which is where many of the most popular tourist destinations are found. Menorca is the second largest of the Balearics, and is located to the east of Mallorca, the largest of the islands. Over two million passengers pass through Menorca Airport each year, and there are a number of transport options for arriving and departing passengers. The Menorca Airport buses are the cheapest form of travel from the airport, and buses provide a valuable link to the capital city of the island.

Menorca Airport consists of one terminal building, and its facilities are divided between a couple of levels. In general, the majority of departure proceedings are handled from the first floor, which is where the check-in counters are found, and all passengers will arrive on the ground floor of the terminal building. It is an international airport, with many passengers flying to and from Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, and domestic passengers travel to the island from Palma de Mallorca, as well as from various other airports on the mainland of Spain, such as Madrid and Barcelona. Arriving passengers will collect their baggage from one of six baggage reclaim carousels, and then proceed to the main arrivals lobby. From just outside this area, the Menorca Airport buses can be found at the bus stops.

In general, there are three main bus operators on the island of Menorca, and they are TMSA, Torres Alles Autocares and Autos Fornells. The company of Torres Alles Autocares is the only one serving the airport, with three routes that lead to various destinations in Mahón, including the main bus station that is located just off Calle de Vassallo, and nearby the Placa de Esplanada. Connections to other areas of the island are provided from the Mahón Bus Station by TMSA, while Autos Fornells is based in Fornells, on the northeastern side of the island.

From Menorca Airport, the buses are available approximately every half an hour, from 05:55 in the morning to 22:30 at night. The bus routes of the airport can be seen in more detail from the official website of Torres Alles, at http://www.e-torres.net, but in general, the Menorca Airport – Mahón bus travels a more direct route to the main bus station of the city, while the other two bus routes circle the city and make a variety of stops along the way. All three of the buses serving Menorca Airport start their journey from the city’s bus station, and end their routes at the main bus station as well. The Number 11 bus, or the Mahón Circunvalación, travels around the outskirts of Mahón city, and the Number 15 bus, or the Mahón Centre bus travels through the main city areas. The buses also stop at Port Mahón, for connections to the harbour of the city.

Passengers can travel in the opposite direction by the same buses in order to reach their departure flight at Menorca Airport. The buses operate from the Mahón bus station between the time of 05:45 and 21:45. Since that the airport is so close to the city, the buses provide a very convenient means of transport, and they are very inexpensive as well. Bus tickets are available from the bus driver, or from the bus station in the city. Always try to have the correct amount of change if purchasing a ticket from the driver of the bus. Travel cards can also be purchased if you intend to make frequent use of the bus services.

Passengers from Menorca Airport who have arrived at the Mahón bus station can then continue their journey by bus if they will not be staying in the capital city. The company of TMSA provides bus services from Mahón to all important regions of the island, including Es Castell found to the west of the airport and capital city, and Punta Prima, found to the south of the island. Other destinations include Sant Climent, Alcalfar, Alaior, Binibèquer, Son Bou, Cala Galdana, Ferreries and Ciutadella. Ciutadella is found on the far northwestern side of Menorca, and is a popular area for visitors. The official website of TMSA can be found at  http://www.tmsa.es.

The bus services of Autos Fornells links the cities of Mahón and Es Mercadal with Fornells, as well as to the holiday resorts of Arenal d’en Castell, Arenal de Son Saura (Son Parc), Cala Tirant (Platges de Fornells) and Es Grau. Further information about this bus company’s timetables and routes can be found at http://www.autosfornells.com.

Menorca Airport bus transport may also be provided by hotel shuttle services, which are usually complimentary bus services owned and operated by the larger hotel chains in the area. Passengers arriving at Menorca Airport can find out from their hotel if any transport services are offered. A number of private bus services may also be available, which are often part of a holiday package deal.
